Like the majority of internet marketers do you wonder why all this web traffic that is out there keeps on passing your web pages by? It's not that you don’t put in the effort to try to get visitors to your website because you virtually sweat blood with all the tweaking you do to the pages. But maybe the problem is not the lack of new visitors to your website but that you are not looking after the visitors you already have.

How do you look after the visitors that sign up for your list – and why should you do it? It’s not the fact that you are really I great person and will go the whole nine yards to help your visitors out. It’s more the tips, skills and different things that your visitors will pick up that will begin to believe in your website and keep coming back for more.

mtb Are Your Web Pages Missing Out On Traffic?

But it’s more than just the tips, or the expertise that you have that will entice more repeat visits. They have to feel that they are experiencing something new and fulfilling, something that will enhance their personal experience and knowledge about their visits to your website.

You have to portray that what you serve up on your website is what you genuinely believe in and that what you give is of great value, well designed content that your visitor will benefit from. Your visitor should leave your website will the feeling of satisfaction and eagerly wanting to come back for more.

How long has it been, since you brought a sense of adventure to your website? More to the point when did you last share the tools that you use so that others can benefit from them as well? I don’t just mean any old freebie that you have picked but genuine honest to goodness pieces of information that you have benefitted from.

This type of information will get the visitors coming back in their droves. Visitors to your website need to have a reason to keep coming back to your website. You have to make them feel that they must check out your site on a regular basis because they don’t want to be missing out on anything you offer. In other words get them eager to see what you want to share with them.

I believe that’s the missing piece of the jigsaw you need to put into your marketing strategy, and it will go a long way to getting you more traffic to your website. You have to make the most of the visitors you’ve got – and they’ll do the rest for you!

By doing this you will build up a rapport with your visitors and they will in turn pass their experiences of your website to their friends, family and colleagues… well, you can already see where I’m going with this – more free traffic to your website!

You have to be certain that the qualities you bring to your website will enhance the visitor’s experience. Therefore, I believe you should look for two very special qualities – genuine enthusiasm and a generosity in sharing with others as part of your marketing strategy.

If you haven’t got theses two qualities within you then you need to take a deep look at yourself and try to determine what will bring visitors flooding back to your website.

After all, why put yourself through hell every day and night working out how you can drag in new visitors to your website – when the satisfaction you give to your existing visitors could be the missing key element helping you need to bring in bucket loads of new subscribers to your website.

Linking correctly in your content and on your web pages is a fantastic way to drive traffic to your website. However, in order to make the most of this traffic generation strategy you need to make sure you’re linking correctly.  Search engine optimization, an important strategy to drive traffic, can skip indexing your website if it does not have relevant incoming links.

There are different types of links.

  • Standard link – typically considered a direct link which looks like a basic website address – www.yourwebsitehere.com. Used in advertisements, bio pages, and a call to action.
  • Text link – link where the website address is embedded in the text.  Used in your content, blog posts and articles.
  • Deep link – a link to an internal web page, for example an article published on a website, rather than the home page.
  • One way link – a link that comes into your site from another website.
  • Reciprocal link – a link that goes to a website where they also link to you.

In order for a link to offer value, it must be both relevant and credible.  Meaning, the site linking to you is relevant to your business and be a reputable website, no link farms.  The search engine will give credibility and weight to the value of that link. To effectively drive traffic to your website, make sure your links are coming from relevant and credible websites and that you’ve created a linking strategy that contains all types of links.

Most business people realize the importance of having an electronic business card that contains a signature link to their website – and there is every possibility that it just might increase traffic to their website. But there are 3 very powerful traditional methods that you may have simply overlooked.

Use a Local Marketing Company

Many local marketing companies are run by experienced individuals – and maybe the top notch agency might cost an arm and a leg to hire, you might find some of them provide services that may not be too costly for your budget.

A local marketing consultant will have their finger on the pulse and will be able to provide you with all the resources you will need. They will no doubt have ideas what are the best places to promote your website even before you have given them a detailed breakdown of what your website is all about.

Normally for a business to succeed to better for you to spend you working hours doing what you do best (money making) and leave your marketing consultant free to go about promoting your business to the best of their ability. Basically promote your website(s) and drive people to your website(s).

Consider Local Television Adverts

We are all guilty of believing that magazine and TV and advertising are something that only the major players can afford, and, in most cases, that is possibly true.

But did you know that some TV advertising, especially with your local TV station can be affordable, even to a small business operation. Just think of the exposure you could generated if you had a small advert run by the local TV station. You could end up being a “celebrity” – even if it is just in your own back yard. Just think of the business credibility that will bring you!

You will tend to find that after some TV exposure you will start to get the rest of the local media on board (i.e. newspapers). The local papers will be pestering you to advertise in their newspaper just because of your new found fame.

And now it looks like the Google are going to get in the advertising act by brokering a deal between local TV and NBC. In other words Google are going to be putting their ads via a television network.

Offer a Workshop to Your College

Ok, so this doesn’t sound as tasty as being a TV celebrity but by offering a workshop to your local community college will gain you long term visibility with the community and in turn you will eventually see it as a traffic increasing strategy. I believe this should be something that every online business should think about using.

You have to put together a professional looking proposal and present to the right people beforehand.  Ok, you are going to be busy putting this all together but I believe it will all be worth it in the end. Your business may not experience any significant growth immediate but you will see the fruits of your labor in the long term. Also, you will far more from an exercise like this because it will open your mind to some ideas that you never thought were possible for your market (that is if the subject of your workshop was relevant to the market you are in.)

Also press releases are another great way of increasing traffic to your website(s). This can be both via offline sources like local newspapers and trade magazines, and also to online free and paid PR services (like PRWeb).

The thing about putting in a little effort is that the more you do, and the more enthusiastic you are about it, the more you’ll notice benefits coming back to you. You must stay positive and be as proactive as possible. You have to make the most of every offline and online opportunity that comes your way. Because they are building bricks that you build up your credibility that will allow your online business reputation to grow.

Everyone makes mistakes however, if you know what mistakes to avoid in advance, you save yourself tons of time, energy and money. Here are 3 traffic generation mistakes to avoid so you can skip right over them and get to the business of making money.

Link farms. Link farms are websites or groups of websites that link to every site that registers or joins. They’re detrimental to your growth and search engine page ranking because search engines analyze what links are coming into your site and if they’re from websites that aren’t relevant or reputable, your website gets knocked down in page ranking and sometimes even banned. Link farms harm your reputation. When linking, be sure to generate links that come from relevant and quality websites.

Duplicate content. Duplicate content occurs when you publish the same article or blog post on more than one website. There are differing opinions on the effect duplicate content has on your website rankings however, it’s generally not worth the risk. If you want to re-purpose content and reuse it on other websites or for article marketing purposes, rewrite your article or have it rewritten.

Keyword stuffing. This is the practice of essentially stuffing your content with keywords. Not only does it make for an awful article, the search engine algorithms recognize the practice and penalize you for it. The goal when writing content is to write naturally and then go back and insert your keywords where they fit.

Avoiding these mistakes is easy. Steer clear of anything that doesn’t have a positive effect on your reputation, credibility, and search engine ranking. As a marketer, you’ll also want to test and track your traffic strategies to find which ones generate the best results for you.

Initial planning is one of the biggest mistakes most internet entrepreneurs make when trying to drive traffic to their website. As a business owner your number one task and responsibility is to plan your business. Experts recommend spending at least 25% of your time planning. Everything from your finances to your traffic generation strategy should be planned.

Here’s what to consider when planning your traffic generation strategy:

  1. What do you want from your traffic?
  2. How will you achieve your traffic goals.
  3. What tools will you going use to achieve your goals?
  4. How much money are you willing to spend?
  5. What do you expect to achieve from each traffic generation tool and how do you go about making sure they are successful?
  6. How do you test and track your results?
  7. Do all your tools and traffic generation tactics come together as an overall success?
  8. How often will you reappraise, analyze, and plan your strategy?

Your plan may not be linear. It could be a mindmap, a flowchart, or a simple free form paragraph. There isn’t a right or wrong way to plan, what is important is that you do it. Having a plan will make sure you don’t miss a step, make mistakes, or skip over a potentially lucrative and effective traffic generation strategy.
